About Me

Awareness. Advocacy. Action.

Hi! I'm Lydia Laythe and I'm running for Erie County Council. I'm a social worker, local elected official, community organizer, advocate, and proud wife & step-mom.

I have a lot of experience helping people - from children and teens who've experienced trauma to previously incarcerated men.

I know the gaps in the criminal legal system and the barriers in the education system. I've seen how good people can get stuck in poorly functioning systems & be unable to help families reach their fullest potential.

I see these gaps and barriers as opportunities for growth, for positive change, & for improvements to systems that enable good people to keep doing good work in our community! Because there are so many people in our community doing great work!

About this campaign

This is more than just a "political campaign" - this is a campaign for awareness, for advocacy and for action.

Our community wants people in positions of power to listen to our concerns, see the obstacles we face daily, and respond - with policy, resources, and action.

We want elected officials that actually DO the hard work of leading, speaking up for us, and helping solve the problems we all face - like poverty, hunger and inadequate access to healthy and affordable food, inaccessible and unequal education, unaffordable childcare and healthcare, job insecurity or instability, and all the additional barriers created by personal trauma, stress, discrimination, and unexpected hardships.

We're not meant to face these struggles alone - we need one another. And we need good leaders - leaders who are aware of the issues, unafraid to advocate for us, and ready to take action.
